Trim Saws

Trim saws are not for slabbing. The maximum depth of cut on trim saws is approximately 1-1/4" for a 4" blade, 1-5/8" for a 5" blade and 2" for a 6" blade.

Nothing is more frustrating than having a great piece of rough that has a crack running right through the center.  The anguishing decision (and perhaps expensive proposition) of which portion gets ground away into rock dust can easily be avoided by using a trim saw.

You can quickly create two great pieces of rough out of one stone using a trim saw.  Trim saws also easily trim off many inclusions.

After cutting a large stone into slabs, a trim saw allows you to cut out the general shape of the finished stone.

Super thin blades cut much thinner kerfs than regular saw blades. This saves more of your precious rough for faceting and cabbing and less is ground into worthless powder. The trade off is they cut slowly and don't last as long as thicker blades. Thin blades also require saws with a fast 3000 to 4000 RPM to stiffen them by centrifugal force. stiffen them by centrifugal force.

We have provided information below on five saws and one combination machine: the 4" Tiny Trim, Raytech Jem Saw 45, Hi Tech 4/5" and Hi Tech 6" Saws, Lortone 6" HiBall saw and the Rock Rascal Combination machine.  We do not sell these saws, but we do sell 10" saws and larger slab saws from Covington Engineering.

We do not sell the trim saws listed below.
They are listed as an informational service.

Raytech Jem Saw 45:

The Raytech Jem Saw 45 is the finest saw faceters can buy. The Jem Saw 45 takes blades with a 5/8" arbor hole.

The accessory Vise (shown on right) holds stones firmly and produces a perfectly straight cut.

A Trim Table (shown on left) is also available for the Jemsaw 45.  The trim table makes it easier to cut straight lines when guiding material through the blade by hand.  It also allows you to cut long pieces all the way through the blade without bumping against the arbor.
