Leather Polishing Pads:
Leather pads are used for polishing with oxide polishes such as cerium oxide or tin oxide. We have two types of leather pads: cowhide and elk. Cowhide has a rougher surface than elk.

Leather pads do NOT have an adhesive backing. So, you have to use feathering cement to attach them to a base plate or master lap. Feathering cement can be found on our accessories page..

Hi Tech Diamond Smoothing Discs

The Hi Tech Diamond Smoothing Discs and accessories allow you to cut cabochons on your flat lap, or faceting machine.  Rough in your cab on a coarse grit lap and finish it by going through the grit sequence of the Hi Tech Smoothing Discs.  The 325 Smoothing Disc on top of a sponge pad and Backing Plate (Hi Tech or Crystalite Master Lap) creates a surface with a lot of "give".  Finer grits work best without a sponge pad.  The Hi Tech system makes your cabs nice and rounded with no flat areas and provides a finely polished surface.

This is a great set up for people who only cut a few cabs now and then and don't want to go to the expense of purchasing a cabbing machine.  It's also handy if you don't have room for a machine dedicated to cutting cabs.

Hi Tech Diamond Cutting Laps:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hi Tech Diamond Laps have diamond bonded to a thin aluminum lap.  The thin lap is then glued to a composite baseplate.  The composite baseplates are very flat and true, so Hi Tech laps run just as flat and true as Crystalite Regular Laps, but are a fraction of the cost.  Hi Tech laps have the advantage that they break in much faster than Crystalite laps.  Once a Hi Tech 1200 grit lap isbroken in, it cuts finer than a Crystalite 3000 grit lap.  So the 1200 Hi Tech lap renders an excellent pre-polish for many materials.  The only downside of Hi Tech laps is they don't last quite as long as Crystalite Regular laps.  The initial investment of Hi Tech laps is so low, they are a much better value than Crystalite Regular laps.  If you only need to use a 100 grit lap on occasion, it doesn't make sense to purchase any other lap than the Hi Tech Diamond.

Hi Tech Diamond Topper Laps:
Topper laps are the thin diamond laps that Hi Tech glues on to their baseplates.  These laps are too thin to be used by themselves.  Topper Laps must be glued to a baseplate, or placed on top of a Master lap before use.  Topper Laps are the least expensive laps you can get, but they're great for roughing in those few stones that don't warrant spending the full price of a standard lap.  Topper Laps that aren't mounted to a baseplate don't run flat and true, but accuracy isn't needed if you are quickly hogging off material for preforming..

Crystalite Dot Laps with 1/2" Arbor Hole:

Crystalite Dot laps are the most aggressive laps available.  They remove material super fast with absolutely no hydroplaning.  The open area surrounding the "dots" quickly remove cutting scree from the grinding area.

Excellent for preforming large stones and producing flat surfaces in a hurry.

Raytech 6" Spin Discs
Note: We no longer sell Spin Discs. These 6" diameter aluminum spin discs spin on and off providing quick changes of finishing discs. They feature a 3/16" thick sponge cover and a machined hub with screw for attaching into 1/4"-20 thread holes. A seperate spin disc for each polishing agent saves time and helps eliminate contamination.
